Sustainable Cities (NYC)
Leadership Forum on Sustainability
Co-hosted By IBM
Sponsored By 1E, Coca-Cola, Holland & Knight, Johnson Controls, Telx, Verdiem, UH Trade & Investment, XPLANE, Smart
Why This Matters Now
Two inescapable trends are coming together: the urbanization of the planet along with climate change and related concerns about the long-term sustainability of the planet. In 2008, the earth’s population crossed a threshold: it became more than 50% urban dwellers and that number is predicted to reach 75% by 2050. Whether you believe that climate change is caused by human activity or not, the evidence that something is happening is undeniable: in just one example, the concentration of CO2 in the atmosphere increased by approximately 1/3 between 1958 and 2005 with the growth projected to continue to 2020 and beyond. In this Sustainable Cities Summit, we will explore the challenges and opportunities presented by this evolution. We will look at the systems that undergird a vibrant sustainable city. We will hear from best-of-breed companies on what they are doing, how they are measuring success, and what lessons they can share to help you lead your firm to a greener and more profitable future. We’ll explore the strategic “why” as well as the tactical “how to.”

Rising Star Networking
For entrepreneurs, corporate intrapreneurs, investors and invited EC guests
Co-hosted By Regus
You are cordially invited to attend a special Rising Star event with a discussion between NY's hottest CEO and most praised business editor:
Barry Silbert, Founder & CEO of Second Market, is an inspirational entrepreneur who runs the world's largest private marketplace for buyers and sellers to trade stock in privately held companies. The biggest trades right now on SecondMarket? Twitter and Facebook.
Walter Kiechel III is former editor of Fortune, former managing editor of Harvard Business Review and author of the new book, Lords of Strategy, which is a revealing account of the iconoclastic founders of Bain, McKinsey and BCG. In the 1960s, these four mavericks and their posses instigated a profound shift in thinking that turbocharged business as never before, with implications far beyond what even they imagined. This book is inspiring and sometimes terrifying because of how these four companies changed the very soul of Corporate America.
Rising Star is separate from other events because 1) It's by invitation only; 2) limited to 100 attendees and 3) is loaded with inspirational discussion plus plenty of networking time to meet people that matter and can advance your career and business.
BUILD YOUR NETWORK. MAKE CONNECTIONS THAT COUNT.
The Rising Star Networking Events are for the serious business manager who is looking to build his or her rolodex and relationship base in NYC in an optimal setting for efficient networking. This is not for the "free drink" crowd or the casual hanger-on that seem to be creeping into networking events these days. We screen every attendee to insure they meet our criteria.
It's the best way to meet business people that matter most to you; all in a private setting.

WHY THIS MATTERS NOW
The 2008 Presidential election and the Wall Street meltdown may have created a 'perfect storm' for the health care economy. But, now that the country has absorbed the blows, where do we go from here to create a sustainable healthcare policy that strikes the right balance? The stakes are high.
President Obama and the Congress have developed an ambitious proposal that promises to dramatically change our health care system. All of the stakeholders in our $2 trillion health care economy will be affected. Insurers, providers, employers, investors, and consumers will now play to a different set of rules.
Who wins under nbsp;the Obama-led plan? Who loses? And, what does it mean for you and your company? The speakers at this event will address:
· What to expect in the months ahead as the Health Reform details are refined?
· How will the changes impact health care investors? Which sectors will flourish and which face danger?
· How will the insurance industry respond to the new regulatory framework and be affected by the Insurance Exchange?
· Can hospitals and other health service providers survive in the face of impending cuts to the Medicare program?
· How can the adoption of health information technology help change the health care economy?

BACKGROUND
A high-impact forum to help senior marketing and media executives discover how to better engage customers and build brands in a media landscape that is changing radically.
A powerful sponsorship opportunity for select companies seeking to develop and strengthen relationships with CMOs and senior marketing executives from leading companies.
WHY THIS MATTERS NOW
Old line journalism and advertising professionals talked of the wall between church and state: lines were clearly drawn between content producers and advertisers as well as between the different channels of distribution. That was then. Today, the walls have been blown apart and it seems that every company is, in some way, a media company and every communication pulse a chance to deliver a commercial message.
We’ve moved beyond “old media” vs. “new media” yet there is confusion about how to best leverage social networks, search, product placement and all of the other options at your fingertips – particularly amongst enterprise companies. In this high-impact morning summit, we’ll explore how to come out on top in the fragmented media-sphere. We’ll look at where things are now – and where they are going. We’ll also take an over-the-horizon look at how next-generation firms are attracting money now.
Marketers – corporate and otherwise – must adapt to this new marketing, media, and communications environment. More than ever, marketing executives express concern over where to put their media dollars and how to get the greatest impact from tightening budgets. This event will deliver the insights and strategies needed to succeed in this new world.
WHY THIS EVENT IS SO POWERFULIt’s simple: the right audience discussing the hottest topics in an open, interactive peer-to-peer environment dedicated to delivering practical, actionable insights. The Executive Council is convening a half-day summit to be held March 24, 2009 in New York City to help senior marketing and media professionals engage more deeply and meaningfully with their customers and audiences.

Wall Street, the Obama Administration and the Healthcare Economy
Co-hosted By Accenture, Proskauer Rose
Sponsored By Deloitte, Empire BlueCross BlueShield, Eli Lilly
WHY THIS MATTERS NOW
The 2008 Presidential election and the Wall Street meltdown may have created a 'perfect storm' for the healthcare economy. On the one hand, the incoming Obama Administration is talking about reshaping the healthcare system from negotiating drug prices for seniors and other cost-cutting measures to dramatically expanding insurance coverage to pushing adoption of electronic health records. On the other, the collapse of the credit markets and the resulting collateral damage is upending finances and business models across the sector. And all of this is happening just as the baby boomers are entering their most intensive healthcare years. Where are the big opportunities and cavernous potholes in the road ahead? Will a wave of consolidation reshape the landscape? How will health systems, managed care plans, IT companies, drug and device companies fare? How will constricted credit affect investment in information technology, R&D and innovation? Where is the smart money being invested now? These are just some of the questions we will tackle in this hard-hitting half-day summit that will convene some of the most influential and prescient voices in the healthcare space.

The Flipside of Capitalism
Capitalism's Achilles Heel
Co-hosted By FIser, Sroz Friedberg
Sponsored By UPS, Wilmer Hale
In his book, “Capitalism’s Achilles Heel”, Raymond Baker asserts that Western banks and companies are being used to launder some $1 trillion annually in cross-border illicit money. The proceeds of corruption, focused on by the media, are only about 3 percent of the global total. Criminal activities, drugs, arms trading, smuggling, and terrorism generate about a third of the global total. Nearly two-thirds flows from tax evasion derived from kickbacks, falsified invoices, and sham transactions. The incidence and impact of global money laundering is growing and has become an issue of serious concern for corporate America. What actions can Corporate America take to combat global money laundering? What changes in prevailing corporate practices are necessary? How far should regulation go?
WHAT YOU'LL LEARN
1. Promote Broad Awareness: Generate widespread awareness among corporate executives and federal policymakers of money laundering on the U.S. and world economy and its impact on peace and security through ties to international drugs, arms, human trafficking, and international terrorism.
2. Educate Private and Public Sector Leaders: Call attention to global money laundering schemes, their corporate and legal significance, and suggest actions that companies need to take to protect themselves, their directors and officers, and their shareholders.
3. Identify Emerging Issues and Solutions. Following U.S. vs. Pasquantino, corporations need to factor the potential of felony offenses impacting on transfer pricing. Caution will be offered on the risks of money laundering and practical advice will
be provided on how to avoid illegalities.
Getting the Message Across
Best Practices
Attendees will be briefed on the scope and immediacy of money laundering as an issue for CEOs, CFOs, General Counsels, and board members of Audit and Finance Committees. The seminar will discuss practical approaches to review and identify potential problems, corporate policies and procedures, and best practices. This is designed to be a private, peer event that is interactive in
nature and which draws from the experience of both speakers and attendees.
The content for the discussion will be tailored to each market, attracting high profile speakers and participants who will debate specific implications of money laundering.

The Life Sciences Boom - Are Innovation and Transformation Enough?
Co-hosted By Deloitte, Proskauer Rose
Sponsored By Microsoft, Capitol Consulting Group, Mass Bio
As the computer sciences companies like Digital helped shape the landscape of the metro-Boston area of the 1980's and 1990’s, the emerging life sciences industry has begun to show signs that it is poised to serve as the economic engine of Massachusetts through the first half of the 21st century. One important sign is Governor Patrick’s unveiling of a plan to make Massachusetts the global leader in life sciences, through a $1b investment package. Major mergers and acquisitions in the field including the Biogen-Idec merger and Boston Scientific’s acquisition of Guidant Corp., signal even more potential for growth in this sector. Additionally, development of the life sciences has sparked growth in a number of other complimentary industries including financial, service and manufacturing. An aging U.S. population and growing demands on the healthcare system will only increase the need for innovation and expansion in the critical life sciences industry. Despite the great success of many life science companies in Massachusetts, the industry is not without its share of perils and pitfalls. Fluctuations in financial markets and the lending industry, changes in state and federal regulatory processes, and the continual need to develop new drugs and devices all add a level of uncertainty to the life science industry. Pharmaceutical companies must succeed at both developing the next great drug, and reshaping their organizations to be more flexible and cost efficient. Medical device firms are spending millions in R&D to design technology that will make it easier to repair ailing hearts, aching backs and damaged joints. Innovation in these sectors holds the promise of breakthrough discoveries that can improve health care quality and access to new lifesaving technologies.

Healthcare Reform 2008 - Evolution or Revolution?
Sponsored By Proskauer Rose, IBM, Deloitte, The Deal, One Med Place
It now appears certain that healthcare reform is high on the political agenda this year. The upcoming Presidential and Congressional elections promise to focus public and business leaders attention on proposals to heal our ailing healthcare system. This requires more than force of will or mere innovation. Everyone would agree that the current system is unsustainable. What is the best way to change the system? Full market-based? Governmental-run system? For New York, the stakes could not be higher. At this private forum, you will get answers to key issues: How much can we rely on Marketplace Forces? What to do about Universal Coverage, Rising Health Care Costs, Gaps in Quality of Care? What impact could Reform have on our large Academic Health Centers and Medical Schools? The Life Sciences Community? Small Businesses? Wall Street? What Role should State and Federal Government Play in Addressing these Problems? How could Reform Impact State and City Medicaid and other Health Expenditures?

2007 Healthcare Summit - The Life Sciences Boom
Sponsored By Proskauer Rose
Pharmaceutical companies must succeed at both developing the next great drug, and reshaping their organizations to be more flexible and cost efficient. Medical device firms are spending millions in R&D to design technology that will make it easier to repair ailing hearts, aching backs and damaged joints. Innovation in these sectors holds the promise of breakthrough discoveries that can improve health care quality and access to new lifesaving technologies. New York is home to some of the leading life sciences companies in the world. Indeed, these companies are becoming an increasingly important part of the region's already large and growing health care economy. Can New York succeed in attracting and keeping these companies?
